Officebound · Chapter 1 Dossier
Twenty workdays to build four floors of the marble tower, court a sponsor each week, audition for six departments, and survive the Performance Review. This page maps the main line only — hubs, the twelve sponsor plans, the HR fork, and the hiring math.
onboarding_handoff.Every Friday freezes the whole-tower score and resolves the floor whether or not a plan finished. Each floor's sponsor window is its first week only.
Hub opens after Fix the prototype, while Floor 1 is active. Two sponsors make an offer.
Quest_Tower_F1_Marcus_BoringOnPurpose Quest_Tower_F1_Tara_WorthTurningAHeadFor Talk to Marcus, Renee, or Victor — explore 1 or more plans, then choose 1. The service-owned Floor 2 Sponsor Commitment deliverable tracks the department contribution target alongside the hub. Department auditions open this week.
Quest_Tower_F2_Marcus_SurviveTheDrop Quest_Tower_F2_Renee_ClientsHateWaiting Quest_Tower_F2_Victor_UnderTheLine Same slate shape, one extra gate: the choice unlocks only after 2 corporate calibration proxy runs land on Floor 3.
Quest_Tower_F3_Marcus_AirIsNotAPlan Quest_Tower_F3_Marisol_NobodyGetsHurt Quest_Tower_F3_Renee_TheFastLane The widest slate — four sponsors. Demo Day and the Performance Review use this floor's backing. The HR fork (below) also resolves this week.
Quest_Tower_F4_Tara_TheLastLook Quest_Tower_F4_Victor_TheCapTable Quest_Tower_F4_Marisol_TheLongestFall Quest_Tower_F4_Renee_TheNumberTheyRepeat Every plan's first two steps can run in parallel. Talking to a sponsor discovers their plan; unseen alternatives stay hidden forever.
After any plan clears step 2, commit to one. Siblings become Not chosen — no relationship, department, or disposition penalty.
The review never waits on a plan. An unfinished chosen plan stays Chosen and carries into the extension week; unchosen discovered plans close.
Offers close on the floor's first Friday. Skip the choice and the extension runs sponsorless — a valid route, just no benefit or +8.
Victor's and Marisol's plans expose Invoice Matching and Case Files at your desk while the step is armed — no department membership needed. Quest desk work never touches Productivity or PIP grading.
A failed floor without recovery gets finished by Facilities; that pass closes every unfinished plan on the floor.
Six parallel tracks open after Fix the prototype (W2 starters gate on week 2). Each ends in an endorsement worth +25 reputation and $150 — the bulk of the 40 you need to be hired. Sponsor plans add +8 each.
| Track | Chain | Endorsement capstone | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering | Talk to Marcus → Fix the prototype → Prototype debrief (W3) | +25 · $150 | Refusing Fix still activates it, minus the goodwill |
| Marketing | Own the Room → Campaign debrief (W3) | +25 · $150 | Accepting costs Engineering −3 and locks their offers for the week |
| Sales | Pitch Prep (W2) → Lead Sort → The Sales Pitch (W3) | +25 · $150 | Opens Poach the Pipeline (costs Marketing −3, locks their week) |
| Human Resources | Case Opened (W2) → Paper Trail → The HR Investigation (W3) → Resolve the complaint (W4) | via the fork ↓ | Only track whose endorsement depends on a choice |
| Finance | Audit Notice (W2) → Ledger Run → The Finance Audit (W3) | +25 · $150 | Ledger Run allows at most 2 errors |
| IT | Outage Call (W2) → Triage Board → The IT Outage (W3) | +25 · $150 | Opens Pull the Plug (costs Sales −3, locks their week) |
Registered rivals: Engineering ↔ Marketing and HR ↔ Finance — joining one suppresses the rival's standalone offers. Week-3 conflict quests (Caffeine Overload, Rig the Standup, Trim the Fat, Morale Officer, Pull the Plug, Poach the Pipeline) pay their own department +12 to +14 but charge a rival −3 at accept, non-refundable. Each is one-shot.
The only main-line branch with permanently divergent hiring consequences. Choices are evaluated as an exact four-way route; each also fires its own aftermath quest.
| Choice | Immediate | Hiring consequence | Aftermath |
|---|---|---|---|
| Report everything to HR | $150 · Nadia +1 · HR +25 | HR endorsed · Finance disqualified | On the record (Nadia) |
| Tip Finance first | $100 · Victor +1 · Finance +10 | HR disqualified | Follow the money (Victor) |
| Conceal the evidence | $350 · HR −8 · Finance −8 | HR and Finance both disqualified | Missing pages (Dana) |
| Broker a compromise | $150 · Nadia +1 · HR +25 | HR endorsed · nobody disqualified | Workable compromise (Nadia) |
HR and Finance are the only departments with disqualifying flags anywhere in Chapter 1 — this fork is where they get set.
Opens when Floor 4's Friday gate approves, when the gate week reaches 6, or by the calendar failsafe past week 6. The offer ceremony needs final tower sign-off plus department affinity ≥ 40 — roughly one endorsement (+25) and two sponsor backings (+8 each), or one endorsement plus favors and conflict wins.
Tower signed off and at least one department at affinity 40+ without a disqualifying flag. Ties go to the strongest affinity.
Tower done but nobody at 40 — the company keeps you, unaffiliated. The chapter still closes cleanly.
Week-6 deadline missed with the tower unfinished. Separate hazard: Productivity 0 → next-day PIP → failing it fires you any week.
